Pakistan Lodges Strong Protest Over Indian Naval Provocation in its Exclusive Economic Zone
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday summoned the Charge d’Affaires of the Indian High Commission and lodged a strong protest over what it described as a “highly provocative and unacceptable” action by an Indian Navy vessel inside Pakistan’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the incident took place on September 15, 2026, while the Pakistan Navy was conducting its biennial exercise SEASPARK-26.
The Foreign Office said the Indian naval vessel carried out aggressive maneuvers in dangerously close proximity to a Pakistani naval ship, resulting in contact between the two vessels.
Pakistan termed the incident a serious violation of international law as well as the bilateral 1991 Agreement on Advance Notice of Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troop Movements.
The Foreign Office said the incident had created a serious risk of escalating tensions in the region and conveyed Pakistan’s strong rejection of what it called the “belligerent” action by the Indian Navy.
The Indian Charge d’Affaires was asked to convey Pakistan’s concerns to the Indian government and was urged to ensure strict adherence to international law and bilateral agreements, particularly arrangements designed to prevent dangerous incidents and misunderstandings at sea.
The Foreign Office said Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires in New Delhi would also lodge the same demarche with India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
Pakistan also called upon the international community to urge India to refrain from actions that could further destabilize South Asia.
The Foreign Office emphasized the importance of responsible conduct and adherence to established international and bilateral mechanisms aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The incident comes amid heightened regional security sensitivities and renewed concerns over the risks of military miscalculation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
