‘No hesitation, no discrimination’: Army warns against May 9-like situation

277th Corps Commanders’ Conference reviews security environment, internal stability

RAWALPINDI:  (News Pulse) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, presided over the 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference at General Headquarters (GHQ), where the forum reviewed the prevailing security environment and reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to maintain a high state of operational readiness.

According to ISPR that the conference began with Fateha for the Shuhada of the Armed Forces, Law Enforcement Agencies and civil society who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. The forum paid rich tribute to their supreme sacrifices and acknowledged their contribution to the defence and security of Pakistan.

The forum reviewed the prevailing internal and external security situation and reaffirmed Pakistan’s right to self-defence and targeted action against terrorism emanating from Afghanistan.

The participants stated that the Taliban leadership in Afghanistan, which the forum accused of facilitating terrorism on behalf of India, would bear responsibility for the consequences of such actions.

The Corps Commanders appreciated the sustained success of intelligence-based counter-terrorism operations being conducted by the law enforcement agencies. However, the forum stressed that kinetic operations must be complemented by non-kinetic measures to address the underlying drivers of terrorism and instability.

In this regard, the forum emphasised people-centric governance at the grassroots level, strategic engagement with the public, dismantling of the terror-crime nexus allegedly operating under the patronage of vested interests, and enhanced police capacity.

The participants reiterated that these measures should be pursued in line with the National Action Plan and Vision Azm-e-Istehkam to strengthen internal security and stability.

The forum also underscored the importance of maintaining internal stability and warned that any attempt to create agitation or replicate a situation similar to the events of May 9, under any pretext, would be dealt with through decisive action and in accordance with the rule of law.

The conference also welcomed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing it as a contribution to the longstanding strategic and collective defence ties among the three countries.

The forum strongly condemned Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, expressed solidarity with the Kingdom and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the security and sanctity of the Haramain Sharifain.

The participants also reiterated Pakistan’s principled position on the issue of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), reaffirming support for resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir commended the formations for their operational preparedness and professionalism.

He directed commanders to further strengthen intelligence-based operations and enhance combat capabilities through the induction of modern technology, improved training and greater multi-domain integration.

The COAS and CDF expressed confidence that, with the unwavering support of the nation, Pakistan’s Armed Forces remain fully prepared to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security.
