Ishaq Dar, IAEA chief discuss regional situation, Islamabad MoU

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar spoke with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi, who is also a candidate for the post of United Nations secretary-general, late last night.

According to the Foreign Office, the two discussed the evolving regional situation and agreed that implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) remained the best course of action to help defuse tensions.

Grossi also offered technical support if required.

During the conversation, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to advancing the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and respecting international law and treaties.

The deputy prime minister also highlighted the crucial role of the UN system in advancing the global agenda of peace and development.

Dar wished Grossi success in his campaign for the office of UN secretary-general.
