Trump Contacts Field Marshal Asim Munir, Seeks Pakistan’s Help to Bring Iran Back to Talks: Reuters
ISLAMABAD: US President Donald Trump contacted Pakistan’s Army Chief and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, by telephone last week and asked Pakistan to use its influence to help bring Iran back to the negotiating table.
According to Reuters, citing two Pakistani sources, President Trump spoke with Field Marshal Asim Munir last week.
The sources said the main request from the US side was for Pakistan to use its influence with Iran and play a role in bringing Tehran back to negotiations.
Reuters reported that the White House press secretary’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Further details of the conversation between President Trump and Field Marshal Asim Munir have not been made public.
Meanwhile, Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran today on an official visit to Iran, where he met Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also attended the meeting.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit to Iran is part of Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic and political efforts aimed at promoting regional peace and stability.
Pakistan has consistently called for reducing tensions in the region, resolving disputes through dialogue and promoting peace and stability through diplomatic efforts.
