PM Shehbaz, Iranian President Pezeshkian stress restraint, dialogue for regional peace
Prime Minister Shehbaz underscored the importance of honoring the commitments undertaken under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
ISLAMABAD: (News Pulse) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing deep concern over the recent escalation in regional tensions and emphasizing the urgent need to restore peace and stability through dialogue and restraint.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the prime minister urged Iran and all other concerned parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid any action that could undermine the hard-earned peace gains achieved in the region over the past several months.
Prime Minister Shehbaz underscored the importance of honoring the commitments undertaken under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), describing it as a durable framework for promoting mutual understanding, respect, regional cooperation and shared prosperity.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to regional peace, the prime minister assured President Pezeshkian that Islamabad would continue to play an honest, constructive and sincere role in facilitating dialogue and supporting all initiatives aimed at preserving peace, stability and regional security.
During the conversation, President Pezeshkian thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and other senior Pakistani leaders for attending the funeral ceremony of the late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
The Iranian president appreciated Pakistan’s constructive support and diplomatic efforts for regional stability and reiterated Tehran’s commitment to peace and dialogue.
The two leaders also reviewed progress on the implementation of decisions taken during President Pezeshkian’s visit to Islamabad last month. They agreed to accelerate follow-up measures to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in diverse sectors, including political, economic and regional affairs.
Prime Minister Shehbaz conveyed his respectful regards and best wishes to Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei.
Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact and continue consultations on issues of mutual interest, bilateral relations and efforts aimed at promoting lasting peace and stability in the region.
Pakistan and Iran have maintained close diplomatic engagement in recent months, with both countries reaffirming their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation and supporting regional peace through dialogue and mutual respect.
