China Urges US and Iran to Begin Peace Talks, Praises Pakistan’s Mediation Efforts

China on Monday called on the United States and Iran to initiate peace talks “as soon as possible,” while commending Pakistan for its ongoing mediation efforts in the Middle East conflict.

“China calls on relevant parties to start peace talks promptly,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told reporters, emphasizing that Beijing supports all initiatives that help de-escalate tensions and resume dialogue.

Responding to a question from Anadolu, Mao added, “We commend Pakistan for its efforts to reduce tensions.”

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Sunday that Islamabad would be “honoured” to host talks between the US and Iran as part of broader mediation efforts. The country also recently hosted a quadrilateral foreign ministers’ meeting to support these efforts.

“We support Pakistan in its role as a mediator and stand ready to work with them and other parties to strengthen communication, coordination, and initiatives aimed at ending hostilities and safeguarding peace and stability,” Mao said.

She also reiterated China’s opposition to attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, warning that military action would not resolve the conflict. “Military means will not address the root cause. The conflict serves no one’s interests,” Mao said.
