Jamal Shah responds to Faryal Gohar’s domestic violence allegations
ISLAMABAD: Pakistani actor and filmmaker Jamal Shah has broken his silence over recent remarks by his former wife, actress Faryal Gohar, regarding their past marriage and allegations of domestic violence.
In a detailed statement shared on his X account, Jamal said he had never spoken negatively about Faryal in any public interview and had deliberately avoided discussing their personal relationship following their separation.
Jamal explained that he recently appeared on a television programme hosted by Nida Yasir, whom he described as being like a daughter to him. He said Nida had initially not informed him that Faryal would also be appearing on the programme. After learning about her participation a day or two before the show, he decided it would be inappropriate to withdraw from the invitation.
According to Jamal, he remained reserved during the programme and avoided discussing matters relating to his past marriage. He also said he later declined a proposal for a television serial based on their lives.
Jamal said a channel had approached him about the proposed project and asked him to review the script before making a decision. However, he said he no longer wanted his personal story to be portrayed by what he termed “commercial channels.”
Reflecting on his marriage to Faryal, Jamal said the couple remained together for five years and maintained that he had “neither regret nor bitterness” regarding the relationship.
He described their separation as amicable and said both sides had consciously refrained from publicly discussing the reasons behind their divorce for many years.
Jamal also expressed goodwill towards his former wife, saying that his prayers remained with her and wishing her happiness with her family.
The actor further spoke about his present family life, saying he was grateful to God for the simple life he shares with his wife, whom he described as extremely capable and balanced, and their three children.
Concluding his statement, Jamal said people were free to form their own opinions about Faryal’s recent media appearances. However, he maintained that he would not make inappropriate or disparaging remarks about his former wife.
Jamal’s comments came after Faryal recently made serious allegations about domestic violence during a television appearance. She claimed that violence during her marriage had contributed to the loss of a twin pregnancy and recalled an incident in which a doctor noticed injuries and expressed concern about her marital situation.
Faryal’s remarks subsequently generated considerable discussion on social media, bringing renewed public attention to the former couple’s marriage.
While Faryal has made allegations regarding her past relationship, Jamal’s latest statement presents his perspective on the matter. He has not publicly acknowledged the allegations as described by Faryal and instead stressed that he has maintained a respectful stance towards his former wife and their past relationship.
