Iran supports any agreement that strengthens unity among Islamic countries: Pezeshkian

Iran President urges Muslim nations to unite against external threats, strengthen regional security and expand economic cooperation.

TEHRAN:  Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has reaffirmed Iran’s support for any understanding that strengthens unity among Islamic countries, enhances regional security and promotes economic development, calling on Muslim nations to overcome their differences and work together to safeguard their common interests.

According to IRNA that The Pezeshkian made the remarks on Monday during a meeting with Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin in Tehran.

Emphasising the importance of solidarity among Muslim nations, the Iranian president said regional countries must stand together against threats targeting their peoples and deepen cooperation to resolve outstanding disputes. He expressed hope that the participation of representatives from major Islamic countries in the Tehran meeting would help strengthen regional coordination and pave the way for greater cooperation.

Pezeshkian said the region had experienced years of violence and what he described as widespread crimes by Israel, accusing the Israeli government of pursuing acts of state terrorism across the region with US support while accusing others of terrorism.

He maintained that external pressure and military aggression had failed to weaken Iran or force the country into collapse. Instead, he said, such actions had strengthened national unity and deepened solidarity among the Iranian people.

“Despite the losses and difficulties imposed on our country, the Iranian people stood firm and powerfully defended their homeland,” Pezeshkian said, rejecting the notion that Iran could be forced to surrender through pressure or military action.

The president stressed that Iran would continue to defend the legitimate rights and interests of its people in accordance with international law and would not abandon its legal rights in response to external pressure.

Calls for collective action against external threats

Pezeshkian said a united and coordinated position among Islamic countries could help prevent further acts of aggression and reduce the risk of regional instability. He urged governments across the Muslim world to manage their differences through dialogue and prioritise shared interests over disputes that could undermine solidarity.

He warned that the United States and Israel were pursuing policies that, in his assessment, sought to weaken regional countries, create divisions among Muslim nations and gradually undermine major Islamic states.

The Iranian president said the security and interests of countries in the region were closely interconnected, cautioning that efforts to weaken one major country could expose others to increased pressure and threats.

He called on Islamic governments to strengthen mutual support and ensure that no country in the region was left isolated when facing external challenges.

Pezeshkian also stressed that greater cooperation among Muslim nations was essential to addressing regional conflicts, promoting stability and establishing conditions for lasting peace and justice.

Urges expansion of economic and scientific ties

Highlighting the economic and development potential of the Islamic world, Pezeshkian called for stronger cooperation in scientific, economic, cultural, political and security fields.

He urged regional countries to expand transport and communication networks, facilitate travel and transform borders into opportunities for trade, investment and cooperation rather than barriers separating neighbouring nations.

He also called for closer links among universities, scientific institutions, traders and business communities across Islamic countries, saying stronger institutional and commercial ties could help unlock the region’s shared potential.

Pezeshkian emphasised the need to expand economic cooperation, help Muslim countries meet one another’s needs and make better use of their collective resources to withstand external economic pressure.

He said broader regional partnerships could strengthen economic resilience, address development challenges and reduce the risk of social discontent arising from economic difficulties.

Rejecting the idea that sanctions and pressure could force nations to abandon their positions, he argued that closer economic ties and coordinated regional policies would improve the ability of Islamic countries to overcome shared challenges.

“The security and interests of Islamic countries are interconnected,” Pezeshkian said, warning that pressure against one country could ultimately affect the stability and security of others.

Reiterates Iran’s position on nuclear programme

Addressing Iran’s nuclear programme, Pezeshkian reiterated that Tehran was not seeking nuclear weapons and maintained that Iran, as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), was entitled to pursue peaceful nuclear activities within the framework of its international rights and obligations.

He said Iran expected its legitimate rights under international law to be respected and would continue to defend its right to peaceful nuclear activities.

The Iranian president’s remarks came amid continuing regional tensions and efforts by countries in the Muslim world to strengthen dialogue on security and political challenges.

Iran backs agreements promoting Muslim solidarity

Pezeshkian said Iran’s efforts to expand relations with other Islamic countries were aimed at strengthening brotherhood, solidarity and the dignity of the Muslim world.

He emphasised that differences of opinion should not prevent regional governments from cooperating on issues of mutual concern, particularly those relating to security, economic development and the protection of shared interests.

“Any understanding reached in these meetings that leads to stronger unity, cohesion and regional cooperation will receive the firm and comprehensive support of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said.

Pezeshkian expressed hope that the collective determination of Islamic nations would help end violence and crimes in the region and create conditions for lasting peace, security and justice.

He urged Muslim countries to translate their shared interests into practical cooperation, saying stronger coordination across political, economic and security fields could help prevent further instability and improve prospects for regional development.
