US policy is based on lies; Iranian Foreign Minister strongly criticizes Washington
TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Esmaeil Baghaei has strongly criticized US policy toward Iran and the region, accusing Washington’s system of governance and foreign policy of relying excessively on “lies.”
In a post on X on Saturday, Baghaei cited Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky’s renowned novel The Brothers Karamazov to describe what he called the current state of US policy toward Iran and the region.
Quoting Dostoevsky, Baghaei wrote that a person who lies to himself and believes his own lies eventually reaches a point where he can no longer distinguish truth from falsehood, either within himself or in the world around him.
He said such a person ultimately loses respect for both himself and others.
Baghaei’s remarks came amid continuing tensions between Tehran and Washington over regional security, US policies toward Iran and broader geopolitical developments in the Middle East.
Iran has repeatedly accused the United States of pursuing policies that contribute to instability in the region, while Washington has maintained pressure on Tehran over its regional activities and other areas of disagreement.
