Pakistan Calls for Immediate Halt to Israeli Settlement Expansion at UN Security Council
Ishaq Dar Raises Concerns Over Israeli Land Designation in West Bank
Pakistan reiterated its longstanding support for Palestinian rights and called for sustained diplomatic efforts toward a just resolution of the Middle East conflict during a high-level United Nations Security Council briefing on the Palestinian question on Wednesday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar addressed a council meeting in New York, highlighting Pakistan’s stance that lasting peace cannot be achieved without justice, accountability, and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
While outlining Islamabad’s position, the foreign minister stated that Pakistan remains actively involved in diplomatic efforts focused on securing a permanent ceasefire and reaching a fair resolution to the ongoing conflict.
Dar also reaffirmed Pakistan’s condemnation of what it considers recent unlawful actions by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories. He reiterated the country’s opposition to any steps that seek to change the status of these territories, describing such measures as violations of international law.
The minister further noted Pakistan’s participation in diplomatic initiatives, including the US-backed Board of Peace, which aims to promote ceasefire implementation, reconstruction, and political dialogue.
In a separate statement on X, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Dar would reaffirm the country’s principled and consistent position on Palestine ahead of the meeting. The statement stressed Pakistan’s opposition to the expansion of Israeli control in the West Bank and called for increased humanitarian assistance in Gaza.
Pakistan has consistently supported a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state. It has also backed related UN Security Council resolutions, maintaining that lasting peace must be rooted in international law and respect for Palestinian rights.
