Easy Facilitation Center to be established at Karachi Port for importers, exporters
KARACHI: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has directed the establishment of an Easy Facilitation Center at Karachi Port to provide importers and exporters with multiple services under one roof and resolve their issues without unnecessary delays, Reported News Pulse.
The decision was taken during a special meeting chaired by the federal minister in Karachi on Saturday to review measures aimed at improving trade facilitation and streamlining port-related procedures.
Addressing the meeting, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the proposed center would bring all relevant facilities for importers and exporters under a single platform. He said businesspeople would no longer have to make repeated visits to different government departments to resolve their problems.
The minister directed all concerned departments to appoint focal persons who would be responsible for addressing the complaints and issues of traders and ensuring their timely resolution.
He said proposals and recommendations submitted by stakeholders would be incorporated into the project to make the facility more effective and business-friendly.
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry expressed confidence that the Easy Facilitation Center would help reduce port-related charges, improve operational efficiency and facilitate the movement of goods. He added that improved trade facilitation would ultimately contribute to an increase in trade volumes and revenue generated through Pakistan’s ports.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to modernize the country’s maritime sector and create a more efficient environment for domestic and international trade.
Earlier, on September 4, 2026, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said Pakistan was prioritizing port modernization, the blue economy and environmental sustainability as part of comprehensive reforms aimed at transforming the country’s maritime sector.
During a meeting in Istanbul with International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez, the minister briefed him on Pakistan’s initiatives to attract investment in the maritime sector, advance the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthen international cooperation.
The two sides also discussed ways to enhance cooperation in ship recycling, maritime governance, the blue economy and environmental protection.
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to protect and restore coastal ecosystems through large-scale mangrove plantation and other sustainable environmental initiatives.
Arsenio Dominguez appreciated Pakistan’s progress in maritime reforms and welcomed its efforts to promote ship recycling, strengthen maritime governance and tap into the country’s potential in the blue economy.
The government expects the ongoing reforms and improved trade facilitation measures to strengthen Pakistan’s ports, attract investment and enhance the country’s role in regional and international maritime trade.
