Dar, Jiang Zaidong Review CPEC, Trade and Investment Cooperation
Islamabad and Beijing discuss economic cooperation, connectivity and diplomacy as both countries mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.
ISLAMABAD: (News Pulse) Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong in Islamabad on Sunday to discuss bilateral cooperation, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), trade, investment and regional developments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office on X, Dar appreciated the continued progress in the Pakistan-China “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership” and reaffirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors.
The two sides discussed collaboration under CPEC, regional connectivity, trade and investment, agricultural modernisation and people-to-people exchanges. These areas remain central to efforts by Islamabad and Beijing to expand their longstanding relationship and strengthen economic ties.
Dar underscored the importance of sustained high-level exchanges to advance the vision of a “Pakistan-China Community of Shared Future in the New Era”, the Foreign Office said.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the two sides to exchange views on regional and international developments. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in promoting sustainable peace and stability across the region.
The meeting comes as Pakistan and China seek to deepen their economic partnership and broaden cooperation beyond traditional infrastructure development. The two countries marked the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2026, highlighting their continued engagement in political, economic and strategic affairs.
A key focus of bilateral cooperation is the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, known as CPEC 2.0. The initiative is expected to place greater emphasis on industrialisation, agriculture, mining, information technology and artificial intelligence, alongside efforts to attract investment and strengthen Pakistan’s productive capacity.
The two countries have also been working to align their development priorities and expand cooperation in emerging technologies and other strategic sectors.
During the seventh round of the Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue in Beijing in January, the two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, science and technology, cybersecurity and people-to-people exchanges.
The dialogue also highlighted the importance of closer coordination on development priorities and the implementation of shared economic objectives.
Pakistan and China have maintained close diplomatic and economic ties for decades, with CPEC serving as a major component of their bilateral relationship. Both countries continue to emphasise high-level engagement, economic connectivity and cooperation on regional issues as they work to advance their shared interests.
