Hezbollah Says, US Sanctions Cannot Stop Resistance to Israel
BEIRUT: Lebanon’s Hezbollah has rejected new US sanctions against the group, saying Washington’s measures will not deter it from what it describes as its “resistance” to Israel.
The statement came after the United States imposed fresh sanctions on Hezbollah and accused the Lebanese group of advancing Iranian interests and operating under the influence of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force.
The US Treasury Department said it had amended Hezbollah’s legal classification, alleging that the group “guards the interests of the Iranian government and operates under the leadership of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.”
Washington also announced sanctions against 10 additional individuals it accused of being part of a financial network that transfers funds to Hezbollah.
Rejecting the measures, Hezbollah said the sanctions and what it called “unfair classifications” would not change its position.
“All these sanctions and unfair classifications cannot divert us from the path of resistance and the right of Lebanon and the Lebanese people to defend their land, sovereignty and resources,” the group said in a statement.
Hezbollah also reaffirmed its ties with Tehran, saying it maintained a “close and brotherly relationship” with Iran, which it said it valued and was proud of.
The US Treasury, meanwhile, alleged that Hezbollah operates an international financial network designed to circumvent American sanctions. According to the department, members of the network travel on commercial flights between Lebanon, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates and Iran while transferring millions of dollars in funds.
The latest US measures reflect Washington’s continued efforts to disrupt Hezbollah’s financial networks and limit its access to international funds, while Hezbollah has vowed to maintain its activities and ties with Iran despite mounting economic and diplomatic pressure.
