Dar, Brazilian FM Discuss Pakistan’s US-Iran Mediation Role, stress importance of dialogue for global peace
ISLAMABAD: (News Pulse) Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira on Thursday, discussing Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate dialogue between the United States and Iran.
According to the Foreign Office, Vieira appreciated Pakistan’s “constructive role” and mediation efforts, stressing that dialogue and diplomacy were essential to promoting global peace and security.
The Brazilian foreign minister also congratulated Dar on Pakistan’s signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
Dar thanked Vieira for his remarks and appreciated Brazil’s contribution to strengthening South-South cooperation and its commitment to international peace and stability.
The two foreign ministers emphasised the importance of maintaining high-level contacts and close coordination at the United Nations and other multilateral forums. They reaffirmed their support for multilateralism, dialogue and diplomatic engagement to address international and regional challenges.
The ministers also exchanged views on regional and global developments and agreed to remain closely engaged to further strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Brazil.
During the conversation, both sides extended invitations to each other to visit their respective countries. Dar invited Vieira to visit Pakistan, while the Brazilian foreign minister invited his Pakistani counterpart to Brazil.
The two countries agreed to maintain close contact and work towards further expanding bilateral cooperation and ties.
Brazil was the first South American country to recognise Pakistan in 1948. Diplomatic relations between the two countries have since expanded, with interactions between their governments and civil societies increasing over the decades.
