Disarmament Conference President Welcomes New Ambassadors, Stresses Trust and Consensus

Delighted to receive credentials of new ambassadors: UN Conference on Disarmament President: Tahir Andarbi

GENEVA: President of the Conference on Disarmament (CD) Tahir Andrabi has expressed pleasure at receiving the credentials of newly appointed ambassadors and permanent representatives, stressing the importance of trust, cooperation and consensus in advancing the forum’s work.

In a statement, Andrabi said he was delighted, in his capacity as President of the Conference on Disarmament, to meet the Secretary-General of the CD and Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

He also welcomed ambassadors, permanent representatives and heads of delegations from Argentina, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Andrabi said the meetings reflected a shared commitment to strengthening the work of the Conference on Disarmament through confidence-building, greater cooperation and a spirit of consensus.

He emphasised that constructive engagement among member states remains essential to making progress on global disarmament and international security issues.

The Conference on Disarmament is the international community’s principal multilateral forum for disarmament negotiations and plays an important role in efforts to promote global peace and security.
