Premier leaves Tehran for Turkiye visit; CDF Munir holds meeting with Iran’s FM Araghchi
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the funeral prayers of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in Tehran on Friday, where he paid tribute to the leader’s lifelong services to Islam and the Iranian nation.
The prime minister praised the late leader’s vision, wisdom, and foresight, saying he had guided Iran through decades of leadership with remarkable insight. He also expressed Pakistan’s deepest condolences and solidarity with Iran during its time of national mourning.
PM Shehbaz conveyed his sympathies to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, President Masoud Pezeshkian, and the people of Iran. He prayed for the elevation of the late leader’s ranks and for divine forgiveness.
A high-level Pakistani delegation accompanied the prime minister, including Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, members of parliament, and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, all of whom participated in the funeral prayers.
Following the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz departed Tehran for Istanbul to begin his official visit to Türkiye.
Separately, Field Marshal Munir met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and paid tribute to the late supreme leader’s services.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shehbaz and Field Marshal Munir arrived in Tehran to attend the funeral prayers and formally convey Pakistan’s condolences to the Iranian leadership.
The prime minister was received at Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. Senior Pakistani and Iranian diplomatic officials were also present to welcome the delegation, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.
During the one-day visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s complete solidarity with the brotherly people of Iran and expressed support during their time of grief.
The Pakistani delegation included National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and other senior officials.
According to the information provided, Ali Khamenei was martyred on February 28 during the first day of Israeli and U.S. strikes on Iran. Iranian state media reported that funeral ceremonies began in Tehran on Friday, while burial is scheduled for July 9 in his hometown of Mashhad.
