Iran expresses solidarity with Oman after Trump’s reported threat over Strait of Hormuz
Iran has voiced strong solidarity with Oman following reported remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, in which he allegedly threatened to “blow up” Oman if it did not “behave just like everybody else” regarding control and influence over the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, Tehran stands firmly with Oman and condemns what it described as “threats from U.S. officials.” Baghaei emphasized that Iran considers such statements destabilizing for the region and supportive of escalating tensions in the strategically sensitive Gulf area.
The controversy centers around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint through which a significant portion of global oil shipments pass. Any threat to its security or control is widely seen as a major geopolitical concern, especially for countries in the Middle East and global energy markets.
Baghaei also strongly criticized a recent U.S. military attack on areas in Iran’s Bandar Abbas region, calling it another example of what Tehran views as aggressive and unlawful actions by Washington. Bandar Abbas is a key strategic and commercial hub along Iran’s southern coastline and plays an important role in maritime trade through the Persian Gulf.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s remarks highlight growing tensions between Iran and the United States, particularly around maritime security in the Gulf and broader regional influence. Iran has repeatedly warned against any foreign interference in the Strait of Hormuz, which it considers a vital national security zone.
Meanwhile, Oman has historically maintained a neutral diplomatic position in regional disputes, often acting as a mediator between Iran and Western powers. The reported Iranian expression of solidarity underscores Tehran’s attempt to reinforce regional alliances amid rising geopolitical pressure.
The situation adds another layer of strain to already tense relations in the Gulf, where military activity, political rhetoric, and concerns over maritime security continue to draw international attention.
