Xi calls for even higher-quality China-Russia strategic coordination
President Xi Jinping has urged China and Russia to deepen their cooperation through higher-quality comprehensive strategic coordination, with the aim of accelerating national development, revitalization, and improving the global governance system to make it more balanced, fair, and reasonable.
He made these remarks on Wednesday during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who had arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for a two-day state visit. The meeting came at a symbolic time, as both leaders reviewed the long-standing diplomatic relationship between their countries.
This year marks two important anniversaries in China–Russia relations: the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China–Russia strategic partnership of coordination, and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the China–Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation. Xi highlighted these milestones as evidence of the steady development and deepening trust between the two nations over the decades.
According to Xi, the relationship between China and Russia has advanced step by step because both sides have continuously strengthened political trust and strategic alignment. He emphasized that their cooperation has expanded steadily, consistently aiming for higher levels of engagement and broader areas of collaboration.
Xi also stated that both countries have played a role in defending international fairness and justice while supporting the idea of building a “community with a shared future for humanity.” He described this as part of their shared long-term diplomatic vision and global responsibility.
He further observed that the current international environment is unstable and rapidly changing, with increasing signs of unilateral actions and hegemonic behavior in global politics. Despite these challenges, he noted that peace, development, and cooperation remain the dominant global aspirations and continue to represent the general direction of world affairs.
As two permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and major global powers, Xi stressed that China and Russia should adopt a long-term strategic outlook. He called for strengthening their coordination to promote national development and rejuvenation, while also working together to reform and improve global governance so that it becomes more just, equitable, and representative of all countries.
