US urges India and Pakistan to find “responsible solution” to Kashmir Crisis amid escalating tensions

WASHINGTON: The United States on Thursday called on India and Pakistan to work towards a “responsible solution” to the ongoing crisis following last week’s killings in Indian-occupied Kashmir. Tensions have been rising between the two nuclear-armed South Asian nations, further deepening the conflict.

State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said during her daily briefing that the U.S. government remains in constant communication with both countries. She emphasized that both India and Pakistan must seek a responsible resolution to the situation.

Bruce also addressed the recent diplomatic efforts by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who spoke with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. In these conversations, Rubio stressed the importance of working toward long-term peace and security in the region.

The spokesperson highlighted that President Donald Trump’s administration has been actively involved in managing the crisis, reiterating the U.S. stance on the matter.

Echoing the U.S. leaders’ condemnation of the April 22 terrorist attack in the Pahalgam area of Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists, Bruce reinforced that the United States stands firmly with India against terrorism. “As the President articulated to Prime Minister Modi last week, the United States stands strong with India against terrorism, and Prime Minister Modi has our full support,” she said.

Bruce also shared that Secretary Rubio urged both India and Pakistan to seek a responsible solution to the crisis in a way that ensures long-term peace and regional stability in South Asia. She confirmed that the U.S. is maintaining communication with the governments of both countries at multiple levels.

In response to the allegations made by India, Pakistan has denied involvement in the April 22 attack and has called for an international investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, both countries have taken drastic measures, with India and Pakistan closing their airspace to each other. Additionally, India has suspended the 1960 water-sharing treaty between the two nations, further complicating the diplomatic landscape.
