Cricket World Cup: Pak-India match to be played at Ahmedabad’s Modi Stadium
The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has emerged as the front-runner to host the high-profile India vs Pakistan in the ICC 50-over World Cup scheduled for October-November2023, the first match between the two arch-rivals on Indian soil since 2016.
The BCCI made the decision, anticipating a large number of fans from abroad for the fixture. With a seating capacity of 1 lack, the Narendra Modi Stadium is the largest in the country.
The BCCI is expected to announce the World Cup schedule after the Indian Premier League is over. The tournament will kick off from October 5, with Nagpur, Bengaluru, Trivandrum, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Rajkot, Indore, Bengaluru, and Dharamshala being short-listed as venues, even for practice fixtures.
The BCCI has earmarked over Rs500 crore to upgrade Stadiums across the country before the World Cup 2023. Upgrading existing infrastructure, including clean seats ,toilets ,easy access , is a top priority for the BCCI following recent criticism over the condition of stadiums.
