Pakistan, UK Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthen Bilateral Partnership at ARF 2026

Manila: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met with the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Rt. Hon. Ed Miliband, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) 2026 in Manila, where the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the longstanding Pakistan–UK partnership.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar congratulated Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband on his appointment and wished him success in his new role. Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and reiterated their resolve to expand cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

Foreign Secretary Miliband acknowledged the significant contribution of the Pakistani diaspora in the United Kingdom, describing the community as a vital bridge between the two countries. He appreciated the role of British Pakistanis in fostering stronger people-to-people ties and enhancing bilateral cooperation.

The two leaders also exchanged views on key regional and international developments, with particular focus on the prevailing security situation in the region. They discussed ongoing geopolitical challenges and emphasized the importance of maintaining close coordination on issues affecting regional peace and stability.

During the meeting, Foreign Secretary Miliband commended Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting dialogue and de-escalation during the recent tensions between the United States and Iran. He acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and encouraging peaceful engagement among all parties.

Both sides expressed concern over the recent escalation of tensions in the region and underscored the need for continued dialogue, diplomacy, and sustained international efforts to achieve lasting peace, stability, and security.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to maintaining close engagement and further deepening Pakistan–United Kingdom relations through enhanced diplomatic cooperation and regular high-level exchanges.
