Key Afghan Khawarij killed, accomplice held by security forces
On May 20, 2026, security forces carried out a targeted intelligence-based operation in the Arjam Kuli area of Saranan, resulting in the killing of a key militant commander identified as Basir, along with the arrest of one of his Afghan accomplices.
According to security sources, the operation was launched after intelligence tracking linked Basir to movements originating from the Shaaban area. Acting on this information, forces monitored and located him before engaging in the operation that led to his neutralization.
Basir was reportedly a senior commander within the militant group known as Fitna al-Khawarij. He is described as an Afghan national and the son of Noorullah, another commander associated with the same network. Authorities stated that Basir had been actively involved in planning and coordinating multiple attempted attacks against security personnel.
Officials further noted that Basir also served as an operational commander for militant formations that were attempting to infiltrate the Shaaban area. His arresting accomplice, also Afghan, was taken into custody during the same operation and is currently under investigation.
Security forces have described the operation as successful, stating that it disrupted ongoing militant activity and prevented potential attacks in the region.
