Global Leaders Praise Pakistan’s Role in US-Iran Ceasefire
Leaders and lawmakers from across the world have widely recognized Pakistan’s crucial diplomatic efforts in facilitating a temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran. The agreement, reached at a critical moment, helped avert a potentially devastating escalation in the Middle East.
Ceasefire Announced After High-Level Talks
The breakthrough came shortly before a deadline set by Donald Trump, who confirmed the development on his social media platform. He revealed that the two-week ceasefire was finalized after discussions with Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir.
This marked a sharp reversal from his earlier warning, in which he had cautioned that “a whole civilisation will die tonight” if demands were not met. The agreement was reached just before the 8pm ET deadline on April 8.
Pakistan Invites Further Peace Talks
Following the announcement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that both countries, along with their allies, agreed to an immediate ceasefire across multiple regions, including Lebanon.
He welcomed the decision and invited delegations from both sides to Islamabad on April 10, 2026, for further negotiations aimed at reaching a permanent and comprehensive settlement.
Iran Responds Positively to Mediation Efforts
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed gratitude to Pakistan’s leadership for their “tireless efforts” in bringing about the ceasefire.
He stated that Iran would halt its defensive military operations if attacks against the country ceased, aligning with ongoing discussions based on proposals from both Washington and Tehran.
