Pak-Italy ties based on trust and shared commitment to global peace: Information Minister Atta Tarar

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar delivered a speech at a ceremony held in celebration of Italy’s National Day, expressing honor and appreciation for being part of the joyous occasion.

“It is a great honor for me to attend this delightful event celebrating Italy’s National Day,” said Tarar. He extended heartfelt congratulations to the people and government of Italy on behalf of the Government of Pakistan and its citizens.

Highlighting the strong diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Italy, the minister noted that the relationship is rooted in mutual trust, cooperation, and a shared commitment to global peace and development.

He emphasized that Pakistan values its relationship with Italy and aims to build a comprehensive, long-term partnership.

Tarar pointed out that the two countries have completed 75 years of bilateral relations, which continue to progress positively.

He referred to the recent visit of Italy’s Interior Minister to Pakistan, during which a memorandum of understanding was signed on labor mobility.

Despite regional tensions, this visit underscored the strength of bilateral ties.

He also mentioned the existence of a robust dialogue mechanism under the Strategic Engagement Plan (SEP) since 2013 and shared that both nations are eager for regular discussions on political and economic matters.

“The last session of the political dialogue was held in February this year.”

Pakistan looks forward to hosting the next session of the Pakistan-Italy Joint Economic Commission, he added.

Tarar acknowledged Italy’s role as a significant economic and trade partner, with bilateral trade now surpassing one billion dollars — a promising milestone.

He noted that several Italian companies are operating in Pakistan and that Italy has become a preferred destination for Pakistani students in the European Union.

“Currently, around 3,500 Pakistani students are pursuing education in Italy, with a majority enrolled at La Sapienza University in Rome.”

The minister praised the relentless efforts of Italy’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Marilina Armellin, and her team in strengthening the mutually beneficial partnership between the two nations.
