13 militants eliminated in North Waziristan, five killed in Mastung operation; weapons and ammunition recovered

RAWALPINDI: (News Pulse)  Security forces have killed 18 militants in separate intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, security sources said on Wednesday.

According to the sources, security forces conducted operations against Fitna al-Khawarij in KP under the government’s Azm-e-Istehkam framework and against Fitna al-Hindustan in Balochistan.

In KP, security forces targeted militant hideouts in North Waziristan and adjoining areas, killing 13 militants during the operations, the sources said.

In a separate operation in Mastung, Balochistan, security forces killed five militants associated with Fitna al-Hindustan, according to security sources.

Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the militants during the operations, while a subsequent clearance operation was launched in the area to locate and eliminate any remaining militants, the sources added.

The latest operations come amid a rise in militant violence across Pakistan, particularly in KP and Balochistan, with security forces continuing operations against armed groups.

Pakistan has recorded a significant increase in militant attacks in recent months. According to data compiled by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), 225 militant attacks were reported across the country in September 2026, compared with 199 in August, marking a 13 per cent increase. The number of attacks has risen for the third consecutive month, according to the Islamabad-based security think tank.

The increase in violence has also intensified tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Islamabad has repeatedly called on the Afghan Taliban authorities to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks against Pakistan.

Pakistan maintains that Afghan authorities have not taken sufficient measures against militant organisations allegedly operating from their soil and targeting Pakistani security forces and civilians.

Despite several rounds of talks between Islamabad and Kabul, the issue of militant groups allegedly operating from Afghan territory remains a major point of disagreement between the two countries.
