Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye move to operationalise collective defence commitments amid rising security threats
RIYADH: (News Pulse) Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye on Monday convened an emergency meeting of the Strategic-Political and Defence Committee of the Makkah Alliance for Defence in Riyadh to review the latest security developments and threats facing the Kingdom.
According to Foreign Office that the meeting, held on October 5, also marked a major step in the institutional development of the alliance, with the committee appointing Pakistan’s Lieutenant General (Retired) Nauman Mahmood as its first Secretary-General for a three-year term.
The three countries welcomed the appointment and expressed confidence that Lt Gen (Retd) Nauman Mahmood would contribute to strengthening the alliance and advancing its objectives during his tenure.
The committee strongly condemned what it described as attempted targeting of Makkah and Madinah, along with continuing attacks against cities and civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia.
Pakistan and Türkiye reaffirmed their unequivocal rejection of any attack or threat against Saudi Arabia’s security and territorial integrity.
The two countries also commended the vigilance and preparedness of the Saudi Armed Forces, praising their handling of the threats and attacks facing the Kingdom.
The committee reviewed the outcomes of political and military consultations held ahead of the emergency meeting and approved the recommendations presented to it. The three countries reaffirmed that the Makkah Alliance for Defence represents a collective commitment to mutual defence and a unified response to security threats.
In a significant decision, the committee directed the immediate implementation of the alliance’s collective defence commitments.
It decided that the necessary measures should be taken to provide the agreed military forces and capabilities and ensure their rapid deployment in Saudi Arabia in accordance with approved arrangements and the national laws of the three member states.
The move is aimed at strengthening military readiness, integration and the collective capacity of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye to respond to and counter security threats.
The three countries further affirmed that the security of each member state is an integral part of the collective security of all three countries.
They said translating the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defence into practical measures would demonstrate their commitment to collective defence, strengthen deterrence and reinforce their resolve to safeguard their security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The emergency meeting comes as the three countries move to operationalise the defence framework established under the Makkah Agreement and strengthen institutional and military coordination among the member states.
