Tehran says it remains open to dialogue with Washington

TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Thursday that Tehran remains open to talks with Washington, as Iran weighs the US response to its latest proposal aimed at reviving a collapsed ceasefire in the Gulf.

Pezeshkian said Iran had never closed the door to negotiations with the United States and would continue to remain open to dialogue despite what Tehran views as repeated US attacks against the country.

“We have never shied away from talks, and we never will,” the semi-official Tasnim news agency quoted Pezeshkian as saying.

He added that the United States had targeted Iran three times despite having previously signed an agreement with Tehran.

The remarks came as diplomatic efforts continue over Iran’s latest proposal to restore a ceasefire in the Gulf, with Tehran awaiting Washington’s response.

Iranian officials have repeatedly said that any future negotiations must take into account the country’s sovereignty and security concerns. Washington, meanwhile, has yet to publicly endorse Tehran’s latest proposal.

The comments by Pezeshkian signal that, despite heightened tensions and continued disagreements, Tehran is keeping diplomatic channels open with Washington as efforts to prevent further escalation continue.
