Major General Jawwad Ahmed Qazi Appointed New Force Commander of UN Mission in Western Sahara
NEW YORK: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Pakistan Army’s Major General Jawwad Ahmed Qazi, Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military), as the new Force Commander of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).
Major General Jawwad Ahmed Qazi brings more than 35 years of leadership, command and operational experience in the Pakistan Army and UN peacekeeping missions. His extensive military career includes senior command, staff and instructional assignments in Pakistan and abroad.
He has previously served as General Officer Commanding of an Infantry Division, Force Commander Northern Areas and Director General at the Ministry of Defence.
Earlier in his career, Major General Qazi also served with the United Nations Transitional Administration for Eastern Slavonia, Baranja and Western Sirmium (UNTAES) in Croatia, gaining valuable experience in international peacekeeping operations.
His appointment to lead the military component of MINURSO reflects Pakistan’s longstanding contribution to UN peacekeeping and its commitment to promoting international peace and stability.
