IRGC Commander Says US, Israel Failed to Achieve Objectives Against Iran

TEHRAN: The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Tehran Command has said the United States and Israel have failed to achieve their strategic objectives against Iran and are unable to explain their repeated setbacks to their own populations.

Brigadier General Hassan Hassanzadeh made the remarks during a visit to an IRGC division in Tehran on Saturday, according to Press TV.

“Today, senior officials of the United States and the Israeli regime have no answer for public opinion, intellectuals or their own people over their repeated failures,” Hassanzadeh said.

He claimed that Washington and Tel Aviv had failed to weaken Iran’s Islamic establishment, undermine its armed forces or force Tehran to abandon its peaceful nuclear energy programme.

Hassanzadeh was referring to the latest rounds of military confrontation involving Iran, the United States and Israel, including the 12-day conflict in June and a subsequent 40-day confrontation that lasted from February 28 to April 7.

According to the IRGC commander, Iran responded to the attacks with repeated strikes against sensitive and strategic US and Israeli targets across the region.

He said the June conflict ended after Washington sought a ceasefire, while during the later confrontation, US President Donald Trump announced a unilateral ceasefire following what Hassanzadeh described as more than 100 waves of Iranian retaliation.

The IRGC commander further said Iranian forces would continue responding to what Tehran considers violations by the United States following the ceasefire and the subsequent conclusion of a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding.

Hassanzadeh attributed what he described as Iran’s successes to the continued support of the Iranian public for the Islamic establishment, particularly the country’s Basij volunteer force.

He said national unity and public support had played a key role in helping Iran withstand pressure and military confrontation with its adversaries.
