Musadik Malik, UN OCHA Official Discuss Climate Resilience and Humanitarian Cooperation
ISLAMABAD: (News Pulse) Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, met with Mr. Mohamed Yahya, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), along with representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in Islamabad on Wednesday.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Musadik Malik congratulated Mr. Mohamed Yahya on his appointment as Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator. The minister also acknowledged Mr. Yahya’s previous service as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Pakistan and appreciated his continued engagement with the country.
During the discussion, Dr. Musadik Malik highlighted the United Nations’ humanitarian work as one of its most significant contributions to the global community. He praised the UN’s continued support for countries facing humanitarian crises and its efforts to strengthen resilience against climate-related disasters.
The meeting focused on expanding cooperation between Pakistan’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination and the United Nations system. Both sides explored opportunities to work together on climate resilience, disaster preparedness, sustainable development, and humanitarian response initiatives.
They also discussed priority areas for long-term collaboration and agreed on the importance of developing a roadmap for joint initiatives in the coming years. Emphasizing the need for effective implementation, both sides stressed close coordination with provincial governments to ensure climate and humanitarian programmes deliver meaningful benefits at the local level.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of Pakistan and the United Nations to strengthening partnerships that support sustainable development, enhance disaster preparedness, and build climate resilience across the country.
