Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Calls Punjab’s Cultural Initiatives ‘Commendable’ After CM Meeting

Both discuss the future of film and media development in Punjab

LAHORE:  Filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy lauded the efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for promoting art and culture in the province, according to an official statement.

During their meeting, both sides discussed the development of the Punjab Film City project at NUST City and agreed to collaborate on its progress. The chief minister highlighted that the initiative aims to become Pakistan’s first comprehensive, end-to-end media production hub, offering facilities for film, television, digital media, virtual effects, and post-production.

She further shared that the project would feature modern studios, sound stages, post-production labs, dedicated shooting locations, and even a lake. Additional components such as a convention centre, media trade hub, and a film and music school are also planned as part of the development.

Obaid praised the chief minister’s leadership and described her initiatives as commendable. She particularly noted the revival of cultural events, stating that such efforts not only provide quality entertainment but also help reconnect people with their cultural roots and traditions.

She added that these initiatives have attracted international attention, with well-known figures from Hollywood showing interest in participating in future festivals. Obaid also highlighted the return of traditional events like horse and cattle shows, stressing their role in fostering public engagement and strengthening cultural expression.
