China urges U.S. to immediately release Nicolas Maduro and his Wife

Beijing : A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday issued a strong statement expressing serious concern over what China described as the forcible seizure of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife by the United States.

According to the spokesperson, China is “gravely concerned” about reports that U.S. authorities allegedly detained President Maduro and his wife and removed them from Venezuela. The spokesperson called on the United States to ensure the personal safety of the Venezuelan leader and his spouse and demanded their immediate release.

In the statement, China accused the United States of violating international law and fundamental norms governing international relations. The spokesperson said the alleged action runs counter to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, particularly those related to state sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

“The U.S. move is in clear violation of international law, basic norms in international relations, and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter,” the spokesperson said.

China also urged Washington to halt what it described as ongoing efforts to overthrow the Venezuelan government. Emphasizing the need for diplomatic solutions, the spokesperson called for disputes involving Venezuela to be resolved through dialogue and negotiation rather than coercive measures.

The statement reflects China’s long-standing position in support of Venezuela’s sovereignty and its opposition to unilateral actions by foreign powers. Beijing reiterated that political disagreements should be handled through peaceful means and mutual respect, warning that actions escalating tensions could further destabilize the region.

As of Sunday, there was no immediate response from U.S. officials to China’s remarks.
