POCG Middle East President Zaheer Ahmed Congratulates H.E Sheikha Nasser Al Nowais on Her Historic Appointment as First Female UNWTO Secretary-General – A Moment of Pride for the Muslim World and an Inspiration for Global Tourism Leadership; Heartfelt Felicitations Also Extended to the Visionary Leadership of the UAE
Dubai – (Special Report) Zaheer Ahmed, President of Pakistan Overseas Community Global (POCG) Middle East, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to H.E Sheikha Nasser Al Nowais on her election as the first female Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). He hailed this achievement as not only a milestone in global tourism but a moment of immense pride for the Muslim world, especially for the Pakistani and overseas communities in the Gulf region.
In his official message, Zaheer Ahmed stated:
“H.E Sheikha Nasser Al Nowais’ historic appointment is a beacon of progress and a symbol of how the Muslim world is contributing powerful voices to global leadership. As a Pakistani and as a representative of overseas communities in the Middle East, I feel a profound sense of pride in witnessing an Emirati woman rise to such a globally respected position.”
According to Al Mudassar News Agency, the appointment was confirmed on May 30, 2025, in Madrid, where 35 member nations of the UNWTO voted in favor of H.E Sheikha Al Nowais. She will begin her four-year term in 2026, becoming the first woman in the 50-year history of the organization to hold the post.
Zaheer Ahmed also praised the leadership of the United Arab Emirates, stating:
“This success is a reflection of the UAE’s progressive vision, which empowers women and embraces innovation across all sectors — from tourism to diplomacy. I congratulate the leadership of the UAE, especially His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for nurturing and celebrating such transformative accomplishments.”
He emphasized that Sheikha Al Nowais’ appointment will serve as an inspiration for young Muslim women around the world who aspire to lead, innovate, and make global impact.
“This is not just a personal victory; it is a collective achievement for every nation that values gender equality, visionary leadership, and international cooperation,” he added.
