ISLAMABAD: Security forces have intensified Operation Shaban, launched in the aftermath of the terrorist attack on the Mangi Dam Police Station, with the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps (FC), and Balochistan Police continuing coordinated operations across affected areas, security sources said on Thursday.
According to security sources, an additional 13 terrorists were killed during ground and aerial operations over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of terrorists eliminated during Operation Shaban to 39.
The sources said that 26 terrorists had already been killed in operations conducted on July 6 and 7. Security forces have since tightened the cordon around terrorist hideouts in the rugged mountainous terrain, where clearance and search operations remain underway.
Security sources said the ongoing operation includes coordinated ground assaults and air support targeting terrorist positions in an effort to dismantle their network and prevent their escape.
Separately, terrorists attempted to attack a police station in the Zaidi area of Khuzdar early Thursday morning. The attack was successfully repulsed following a swift response by Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps troops.
Security sources confirmed that eight terrorists were killed during the engagement. They added that reports also indicate another five to six terrorists were killed in helicopter-assisted operations, although verification of those casualties is still underway.
According to security sources, a total of 75 terrorists have been killed since July 5 in Operation Shaban and other intelligence-based operations conducted in the region. Security forces continue operations aimed at eliminating terrorist threats and restoring peace and stability in the affected areas.
