Pakistan Navy Successfully Tests Indigenous “Taimoor” Air-Launched Cruise Missile
Pakistan Navy on Tuesday carried out a successful test of the indigenously developed Taimoor air-launched cruise missile, marking a significant advancement in the country’s maritime defence capabilities. The missile, designed as an anti-ship weapon system, demonstrated high precision and effectiveness during the trial, according to an official statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The ISPR stated that the missile accurately executed its designated mission, showcasing the Pakistan Navy’s ability to detect, track, and neutralize enemy naval targets at extended ranges. The test highlighted the Navy’s growing technological sophistication and operational readiness in dealing with modern maritime threats.
Describing the launch as a “powerful demonstration of precision strike capability,” the military emphasized that this achievement represents a major step forward in strengthening Pakistan’s conventional defence posture. The successful test also reinforces the armed forces’ ability to carry out coordinated, multi-dimensional operations across different domains.
The statement further reaffirmed that the Pakistan Navy remains fully committed to defending the country’s maritime interests and ensuring the security of its territorial waters. It stressed that such advancements are crucial in maintaining a credible deterrence against potential threats in the region.
Top national leadership, including the president, prime minister, chief of defence forces, and services chiefs, congratulated the scientists, engineers, and personnel involved in the development and testing of the missile. They praised their efforts in achieving what was described as a significant milestone in indigenous defence production.
Mohsin Naqvi, the Interior Minister, also congratulated the nation and commended the Pakistan Navy’s scientific community. He described the successful test as a remarkable accomplishment and an important milestone in strengthening the country’s defence sector. Naqvi added that Pakistan continues to make steady progress in indigenous military technology, enhancing its self-reliance in defence capabilities.
Similarly, Murad Ali Shah praised the Pakistan Navy for the successful trial, stating that it reflects the force’s professionalism and technical expertise. He paid tribute to the scientists and engineers behind the project and noted that such achievements further strengthen the country’s maritime defence.
The Sindh chief minister emphasized that Pakistan’s armed forces are fully prepared to respond to any hostile intentions and that the nation takes pride in the Navy’s operational excellence. He reaffirmed confidence in the country’s defence preparedness across all fronts.
This latest test marks the second successful missile-related activity by the Pakistan Navy within a week. Earlier, on April 16, the Navy conducted a live firing of another indigenously developed ship-launched anti-ship missile, further demonstrating its expanding capabilities.
In addition, on April 4, the Pakistan Navy inducted its second MILGEM-class corvette, PNS Khaibar, into its fleet. The induction represents a key milestone in the Navy’s ongoing modernization program aimed at enhancing its operational effectiveness.
During the induction ceremony, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong, balanced, and technologically advanced naval force. He noted that Pakistan’s strategic location along major maritime trade and energy routes necessitates continuous modernization to protect vital Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs).
Overall, these developments underline Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its naval power and safeguarding its maritime interests amid evolving regional security challenges.
