Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Conferred Saudi Arabia’s Highest National Honour
Pakistan’ top military commander met Saudi Minister of Defence, discussed evolving geopolitical challenges
Riyadh: Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has been awarded Saudi Arabia’s highest national honour, the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellence, in recognition of his distinguished military service and pivotal role in strengthening defence and strategic ties between Pakistan and the Kingdom.
According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the honour was conferred under a royal decree by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, during Field Marshal Munir’s official visit to Saudi Arabia.
High-Level Defence Meeting in Riyadh
During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir held a high-level meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Defence, Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, including the regional security environment, defence and military cooperation, strategic coordination, and evolving geopolitical challenges facing the region.

ISPR stated that the interaction reaffirmed the deep-rooted, historic, and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the shared commitment of both nations to peace, stability, and security in the region.
Recognition of Leadership and Strategic Vision
The Saudi leadership commended Field Marshal Munir’s professional competence, strategic foresight, and leadership qualities. The King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellence recognizes his central role in advancing defence cooperation, strengthening institutional linkages, and enhancing strategic collaboration between the armed forces of the two countries.
ISPR further noted that the honour also acknowledges Field Marshal Munir’s contributions toward regional peace and stability, including sustained cooperation in counter-terrorism and security efforts.

Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed his deep gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and the Saudi leadership for the prestigious honour. He stated that the award reflects the enduring bonds of trust and brotherhood between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and reaffirms Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the security, stability, and prosperity of the Kingdom.
Symbol of Strong Bilateral Relations
“The conferment of the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellent Class underscores the depth of Pakistan–Saudi Arabia relations and the shared determination of both nations to further strengthen strategic cooperation in pursuit of regional and global peace,” the ISPR statement said.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoy longstanding strategic, defence, and military cooperation. Over the decades, Pakistani military trainers have served in the Kingdom, while Saudi Arabia has provided significant economic and financial support to Pakistan during times of crisis.
Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement
A major milestone in bilateral relations was achieved on September 18, when Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a landmark Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement. The agreement declares that any aggression against either country shall be considered aggression against both, further cementing their strategic partnership.
