It is central to it,” Aurangzeb said, highlighting the potential of emerging and developing nations to drive global investment, innovation, entrepreneurship and economic growth.

Outlining Pakistan’s agenda for its tenure, the finance minister identified three key priorities: promoting development-led growth, strengthening the representation of developing economies in international institutions and advancing reforms to the global financial architecture.

He said Pakistan would work to ensure that development remained at the centre of international economic policymaking, emphasising that macroeconomic stability should serve as a foundation for investment, productivity, employment generation and shared prosperity.

Aurangzeb stressed that developing and low-income countries must be supported in moving beyond recurring economic crises towards sustainable and inclusive growth.

On institutional reforms, he said Pakistan would advocate more inclusive and representative multilateral frameworks, ensuring equitable governance, meaningful participation in decision-making and greater responsiveness of the Bretton Woods institutions to the changing needs and realities of member countries.

The finance minister said Pakistan’s third priority would be to advance a development-oriented international financial system that provides affordable and timely financing, sustainable debt solutions, stronger global financial safety nets and greater mobilisation of public and private investment.

He also highlighted the importance of climate resilience and ensuring that developing countries have the financial resources needed to address climate-related challenges and pursue long-term development objectives.

“Our task is to ensure that the immense potential of developing economies is not constrained by an international financial architecture that has yet to fully adapt to a changing world,” he said.

Financing for sustainable growth

Drawing on Pakistan’s experience of economic stabilisation, structural reforms and resilience, Aurangzeb emphasised the need to align financial stability with long-term development priorities.

He said countries undertaking economic reforms must have access to adequate financing and sufficient policy space to sustain growth, strengthen economic resilience and improve living standards.

The finance minister reaffirmed that Pakistan’s chairmanship would be guided by the G-24’s longstanding principles of consultation, consensus and collective advocacy.

He said Islamabad would work closely with member countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank and other international partners, to translate shared priorities into concrete and practical outcomes.

Aurangzeb also acknowledged Nigeria’s leadership as the outgoing chair and expressed Pakistan’s commitment to building on the progress achieved during its tenure.

Emphasising the importance of measurable results, he said the success of collective leadership should be judged not merely by the strength of developing countries’ collective voice but by its tangible impact on their economies and populations.

“The true measure of our collective leadership will not simply be the strength of our voice, but the difference that voice makes,” he said.

The finance minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to advancing the G-24’s mission “from collective voice to collective influence, and from collective influence to meaningful progress.”

Pakistan Assumes G-24 Chairmanship, Vows to Champion Developing Economies Aurangzeb outlines three key priorities, calls for reforms in global financial institutions and greater access to development financing ISLAMABAD:(News Pulse) Pakistan has assumed the chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four (G-24), pledging to strengthen the collective voice of developing countries and promote a fairer, more […]

[2300,2297,2298
4175,2391
post-20062","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business","category-latest-news","category-pakistan","tag-g-24-chairmanship","tag-pakistan
["GET
