Iran Sets Six Conditions for Full Reopening of Strait of Hormuz<\/strong><\/h3>\n

TEHRAN: Iran has laid down six conditions for the full reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, warning that the waterway will remain only partially accessible unless the United States changes its policy towards Tehran.<\/p>\n

According to Iran Media , Secretary of Iran\u2019s<\/a> Supreme National Security Council Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr said Tehran would not accept threats against Iran or its people \u201cat any time or in any language.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said the dignity of the Iranian people must be respected and demanded a permanent end to military action and aggression against Iran and its allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen and Iraq.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s other demands include the lifting of US sanctions, access to frozen Iranian assets, an end to the naval blockade and compensation for losses suffered by Iran.<\/p>\n

Zolqadr warned that the Strait of Hormuz would not be fully reopened unless Washington fundamentally changed its approach towards Tehran.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the current circumstances offered an opportunity to reach an agreement through negotiations and diplomacy.<\/p>\n

Addressing a press conference, Pezeshkian said diplomatic efforts had encouraged Washington to pursue an understanding with Tehran. He claimed that the United States had failed to follow guidelines prepared by Iran and Oman, prompting Tehran to respond.<\/p>\n

The Iranian president said mechanisms were normally required to address alleged violations and added that work was underway to establish such arrangements.<\/p>\n

Pezeshkian also warned that the United States and Israel had realised that military action alone could not force the Iranian people to accept their demands. He accused them of potentially seeking to exploit internal divisions and disagreements in Iran to achieve their objectives.<\/p>\n

Separately, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called on Washington to address what Tehran described as violations of a memorandum of understanding.<\/p>\n

Araghchi said Iran was close to reaching an agreement with Oman on a temporary shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz. However, he stressed that such an arrangement would not automatically lead to the full reopening of the waterway.<\/p>\n

He said the reopening of the strait would depend on several other factors, adding that Iran\u2019s armed forces had identified a new route through the strategic waterway.<\/p>\n

According to Araghchi, the current situation emerged following what he described as a US violation of the memorandum of understanding.<\/p>\n

The Iranian foreign minister said talks had already been held between the armed forces of the two countries and that the proposed temporary shipping route was now being finalised.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
