Iran Army says ready to defend Hormuz, warns U.S. against further intervention <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Says that target bank updated for all scenarios<\/p>\n

TEHRAN: Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared to enforce Tehran’s transit arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz and will firmly defend the country’s rights under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, a senior Iranian military spokesman said on Sunday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Iran’s Army Spokesperson<\/a> Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia told state television that the United States had a long record of violating its commitments, citing Washington’s 2018 withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and what he described as breaches of the latest ceasefire agreement.<\/p>\n

He accused the United States of attempting to impose an unauthorized shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz in violation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which he said gives Iran authority over transit arrangements in the strategic waterway.<\/p>\n

“The armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are obligated to provide the necessary security for passage through the Strait of Hormuz and to apply the arrangements envisioned by Iran under the agreement,” Akraminia said. “We are standing behind this with full authority and will firmly defend the rights of the Iranian people as stipulated in the agreement.”<\/p>\n

The spokesman said the Iranian military had never trusted the United States and had used the ceasefire period to strengthen its operational readiness.<\/p>\n

“The army’s target bank has been updated and has the necessary readiness for all scenarios. The Americans would be better off ending their interventions in the region,” he said.<\/p>\n

Akraminia also urged Washington to consider the security of its regional allies, warning that any action against Iran would invite retaliation.<\/p>\n

“Whenever they have taken action against Iran, they have received their response, and the same happened last night,” he said.<\/p>\n

Referring to the latest escalation, he said the overnight developments included the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s southern coast, and Iranian ballistic missile attacks targeting U.S. military bases in Jordan, Qatar and Oman.<\/p>\n

The military spokesman also praised the large public turnout at the funeral of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, describing it as a demonstration of national unity and Iran’s soft power.<\/p>\n

He said the public had transformed grief into a display of solidarity and renewed calls for vengeance for the slain leader.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
