{"id":17049,"date":"2025-10-26T23:00:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-26T18:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newspulse.com.pk\/en\/?p=17049"},"modified":"2025-10-26T23:00:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-26T18:00:09","slug":"us-seeks-to-deepen-strategic-ties-w","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newspulse.com.pk\/en\/2025\/10\/26\/us-seeks-to-deepen-strategic-ties-w\/","title":{"rendered":"US Seeks to Deepen Strategic Ties with Pakistan, Says Rubio"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>US Seeks to Deepen Strategic Ties with Pakistan, Says Rubio<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>WASHINGTON:<\/strong> US Secretary of State <a href=\"http:\/\/Marco Rubio\" target=\"_blank\">Marco Rubio<\/a> has said that Washington sees \u201can opportunity to expand its strategic relationship with Pakistan,\u201d emphasizing that this renewed engagement will not come at the expense of America\u2019s longstanding friendship with India.<\/p>\n<p>During a press briefing, Secretary Rubio was asked whether New Delhi had raised concerns about Washington\u2019s growing engagement with Islamabad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey really haven\u2019t \u2014 though we know they\u2019re naturally concerned given the historic tensions between Pakistan and India,\u201d Rubio said, according to the transcript released by the State Department. \u201cBut India understands that the United States must maintain relations with multiple partners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rubio said Washington\u2019s evolving ties with Islamabad are part of a broader policy to strengthen cooperation with countries where mutual interests align.<br \/>\n\u201cWe see an opportunity to expand our strategic relationship with Pakistan,\u201d he said, adding that this engagement would complement \u2014 not replace \u2014 America\u2019s partnership with India, which he described as \u201cdeep, historic, and important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The secretary also clarified that the recent improvement in US-Pakistan ties did not stem solely from Islamabad\u2019s role in preventing conflict with India. \u201cOur renewed engagement with Pakistan began even before the conflict,\u201d he noted, referring to the US\u2019s earlier expressions of interest in rebuilding a \u201cstrategic partnership\u201d with Islamabad.<\/p>\n<p>Rubio highlighted the two nations\u2019 long history of cooperation, particularly in counterterrorism, and said Washington aims to broaden the relationship beyond security matters.<br \/>\n\u201cI think it\u2019s a very encouraging development,\u201d he said. \u201cThis relationship has strengthened in meaningful ways, and it doesn\u2019t come at the expense of our ties with India or anyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The remarks come amid a marked improvement in bilateral relations after years of diplomatic chill. A key breakthrough occurred in March, when Pakistan\u2019s intelligence services handed over an Islamic State Khorasan operative accused of orchestrating the 2021 Kabul bombing that killed 180 people, including 13 US soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>Later, in May 2025, US President Donald Trump mediated a ceasefire between Pakistan and India following their most serious military confrontation in decades.
