UN chief warns Climate Change making Earth \u201cUninhabitable\u201d <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Humanity is facing a \u201cdifficult truth\u201d. Un Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned in a message marking \u2018World Metrological Day\u2019, saying that the damage already being caused by Climate Change is \u201cmaking planet uninhabitable\u201d.<\/p>\n

He laid down the challenge to government worldwide, to make 2023 a year of \u201ctransformation, not tinkering\u201d when it comes to seriously addressing Climate Change, with meaningful climate change.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year of insufficient action to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius drives us closer to the brink, increasing systemic risks and reducing our resilience against climate catastrophe\u201d, the UN chief said.<\/p>\n

Climate change is intensifying heatwaves, droughts, flooding, wildfires and famines, he warned, while threatening to submerge low-lying countries and cities as sea levels rise due to melting glaciers and increasingly extreme weather.<\/p>\n

The combined impact of this will be to drive yet more species to extinction, Guterres said.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s them, the Future of Weather, Climate and Water Across Generations \u201ccompels us all to live up to our responsibilities\u201d to future generations, he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat means accelerating actions to limit temperature rise to 1.5 degrees, through scaled-up mitigation and adaptation measures. It means radically transforming our energy and transportation systems, breaking our addiction to fossil fuels, and embracing a just transition to renewable energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said developed nations have an obligation now to lead a financial and technical \u201crevolution\u201d that can help all countries reduce carbon emissions, adapt to the future by mainstreaming renewable energy sources such as water and wind, and build up resilience to climate shocks.<\/p>\n

the main among this, is the urgent need to address the loss and damage impacting countries least able to cope \u2013 and least at fault \u2013 resulting from climate change, Guterres said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it means living up to the promise made last World Meteorological Day to ensure that early warning systems against climate disaster cover every person in the world.<\/p>\n

Thirty countries have now been identified for accelerated implementation this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s time to end the relentless- and senseless \u2013 war on nature\u201d, the UN chief concluded, \u201cand deliver the sustainable future that our climate needs, and our children and grandchildren deserve\u201d.<\/p>\n
