NA Speaker Calls for Upholding Constitution, National Unity, and Democratic Principles on Constitution Day
ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that the Constitution of Pakistan is the cornerstone of our democracy, ensuring the rights of citizens and the stability of our institutions. Upholding the Constitution with unity and integrity is essential for the nation’s progress and prosperity. He expressed these views while conveying his heartfelt felicitations to the nation on the occasion of Constitution Day to be observed on April 10.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized the historic importance of April 10, 1973, when Pakistan adopted a consensus Constitution. He described this achievement as a defining moment in the country’s democratic history, laying a solid foundation for national unity, safeguarding citizens’ rights, and strengthening institutional stability.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq highlighted that respect for the Constitution, adherence to the rule of law, and the continuity of democratic practices remain essential for sustainable national progress. He paid tribute to the members of the 1973 National Assembly and the political leadership of that era, who set aside differences to establish a constitutional framework that continues to guide governance and democratic institutions in Pakistan today.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq stressed that the Constitution is the supreme law of the country, defining the powers and responsibilities of state institutions, outlining the rights of citizens, and ensuring accountability at every level. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Parliament to enhance legislation, improve governance, and promote transparency for the welfare of the people.
Highlighting the importance of national unity and strong governance in safeguarding constitutional values, the Speaker noted that a collective commitment to democratic principles and the Constitution strengthens Pakistan’s resilience, stability, and progress. He also noted that the current government’s proactive diplomatic efforts have brought pride to the nation, advancing Pakistan’s international standing and reinforcing its sovereignty.
Underlining the importance of political cooperation, NA Speaker urged all political forces to work together in the national interest, drawing inspiration from the collaborative spirit of the 1973 Assembly. He also emphasized the need to educate the younger generation about the Constitution and encourage them to play an active role in upholding democratic principles and contributing to national development.
On Constitution Day, Deputy Speaker National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah has also extended his congratulations to the nation. He noted that the 1973 Constitution, introduced under the leadership of the martyr Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, continues to symbolize Pakistan’s democratic sovereignty, federalism, and national unity. He added that the constitutional achievements of the 1973 Assembly represent a proud chapter in Pakistan’s history and serve as an enduring example of dedication to national service.
The Deputy Speaker emphasized that the development and prosperity of the nation, and the protection of citizens’ rights, depend on the steadfast observance of the Constitution and the democratic principles it enshrines.
