Iranian foreign minister to discuss latest developments with mediators as Tehran reiterates conditions for reopening Strait of Hormuz
TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his accompanying delegation will meet with mediators in New York on Monday to discuss the latest developments and exchange views on regional issues, an informed source said, ruling out any direct negotiations with the United States.
The source said there were currently no plans for talks between Iran and the US, despite claims by several Western sources that the two sides could hold negotiations in New York on Monday with the participation of mediators.
Speaking to Tasnim, the source clarified that Araqchi and the Iranian delegation would instead hold consultations with mediators to review the latest developments and discuss issues of mutual concern.
The source stressed that the meeting should not be interpreted as negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
The source further said that during a meeting with the Qatari mediator last Tuesday, the Iranian side had clearly and transparently presented its conditions and proposal concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has maintained that any arrangement concerning the strategically important waterway must take into account its stated conditions, as diplomatic efforts continue over the broader regional situation.
