Social media accounts traced spreading anti-Pakistan propaganda from abroad
ISLAMABAD: Pakistani security agencies have identified 33 social media accounts allegedly involved in a sustained online propaganda campaign targeting Pakistan and its state institutions, security officials said on Monday.
Investigators claim the accounts have been actively spreading false, hostile and inflammatory content as part of what they describe as a coordinated campaign originating from Afghanistan, India, and Central Asian states.
According to officials, 22 of the traced accounts are operated by individuals linked to Fitna al-Khawarij — a term used by the state for militants associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The remaining 11 accounts are reportedly run by other anti-Pakistan operators.
Activity Traced to Afghanistan
A considerable number of the accounts — including those operating under the names Mufti Noor Wali, Ghazi Media Net, Al Hassan Mahmood, Syed Ar Sahil, Shaheed Mudassir, Voice of Hindu Kush, Muthanna Ibn Haritha, Hassan Badr and others — were traced back to Afghanistan, investigators said.
Central Asian Network
Security officials added that several accounts, such as Ehsanullah Ehsan and Islamabad Post, are being operated from Central Asian countries by individuals allegedly linked to TTP-affiliated groups. Other accounts from the region include Nuqta, Rahmatullah Katawazai, Al Sharia Ansar Pakistan, Sar Bakaf Mohmand and Khorasan Bulletin.
India-Based Operators
Investigators also identified accounts traced to India, reportedly running under the names Meriyar Baloch, Nighat Abbas, Conflict Monitor, Pakistan Untold, War Horizon, The Daily Malaap, Firdous Khan, World Update and Amazing Vol. Another account, Barak Lancer, was detected operating from South Asia and accused of amplifying similar narratives.
Coordinated Online Effort
Security sources say the findings indicate a well-organized digital operation aimed at targeting Pakistan, inciting distrust, and undermining state institutions.
Officials emphasize that investigations are ongoing, and further action will be taken based on the evidence collected.
