Global Interest in Pakistan’s Fighter Jets Rises after Military Successes: PM Shehbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said Pakistan’s defence production sector has gained significant strength following the country’s military achievements last year, leading to a noticeable rise in international demand for Pakistani fighter jets.

ISLAMABAD: (News Pulse) Chairing a federal cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister stated that several countries are now actively engaging with Pakistan and showing strong interest in its defence products. He said this growing demand would not only enhance Pakistan’s defence capabilities but also provide a major boost to the national economy.

He highlighted recent achievements of the armed forces, noting that the Pakistan Air Force successfully launched the Taimoor system, while the Pakistan Navy carried out successful trials of the LY-80 system. The prime minister congratulated all officers and personnel involved in these milestones.

Referring to Pakistan’s victory against India in May last year, he said the country has made notable progress since then. He reiterated that defence exports were emerging as an important contributor to economic growth.

On the security situation, Prime Minister Shehbaz said Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies are conducting daily operations against foreign-sponsored terrorism in areas including Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He expressed confidence that terrorism would be eliminated permanently.

Speaking about development projects in Balochistan, the prime minister said he recently laid the foundation stone for the 850-kilometre Karachi–Chaman highway, commonly known as Khooni-Sarak. He added that the Rs400 billion project is fully funded by the federal government and has been given a one-year completion deadline instead of the originally planned two years.

He also informed the cabinet that the Ministry of Finance had signed a memorandum of understanding with Financial Technologies to improve Pakistan’s global digital transaction systems. The initiative, he said, would strengthen digital infrastructure, including data centres and cryptocurrency platforms, and support economic growth.

Addressing energy issues, the prime minister said a Rs75 billion package had been implemented to reduce electricity theft and assist farmers. He noted that Rs50 billion was allocated for measures that helped curb power theft and enabled farmers to use solar energy for irrigation.

Concluding his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to economic stability, saying the focus would now shift toward sustained growth and long-term prosperity for the country.
