Pakistan, Bahrain Set to Deepen Economic Partnership: PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister  Of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the upcoming Pakistan–GCC Free Trade Agreement, expected to be signed soon, will significantly boost trade between Pakistan and Gulf Cooperation Council member states — with Bahrain positioned as a key partner.

PM Shehbaz Calls for Stronger Economic Ties

Addressing Bahrain’s business community in Manama, the Prime Minister said his government is fully committed to supporting joint ventures, facilitating foreign investment, and ensuring a mutually beneficial path to prosperity.
He urged Bahrain’s leadership and private sector to collaborate with Pakistan to energize sectors such as industry, agriculture, information technology, and fintech.

Longstanding Relations Ready for a New Phase

PM Shehbaz emphasized that Pakistan and Bahrain enjoy decades-old relations rooted in culture, religion, trust, and mutual respect. He said the time has come to translate this strong diplomatic bond into more dynamic economic cooperation across multiple fields, including AI, IT, agriculture, and fintech.

Gratitude to Bahrain’s Leadership

The prime minister expressed deep gratitude to Bahrain’s King, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Crown Prince, and Foreign Minister for their continued support and for hosting the Pakistani delegation warmly.
He also thanked the King of Bahrain for pardoning Pakistani prisoners, a gesture he described as highly generous.

Appreciation for Pakistani Community in Bahrain

Highlighting the contribution of the more than 150,000 Pakistanis living in Bahrain, PM Shehbaz praised their hard work and dedication.
He noted that the Pakistani community sent $484 million in remittances last year, calling it a commendable contribution to Pakistan’s economy.

Commitment to Defence Cooperation

Both sides reaffirmed their longstanding defense partnership, agreeing to enhance collaboration in training, logistics, manpower, and defence production.

Bahrain Invites Pakistani Tech & Business Investments

In his welcoming remarks, Bahrain’s Minister for Finance and National Economy, Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, applauded the role of Pakistani professionals and financial institutions in Bahrain’s development.
He said the region is undergoing a major technological transformation and presented new investment opportunities for Pakistan in areas such as:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Cybersecurity
  • Metals and manufacturing
  • Automotive components
  • Electronics and advanced technologies
