China appoints Qin Gang as new Foreign Minister
Qin Gang, incumbent Chinese Ambassador to the US, was appointed as news Chinese foreign minister, according to a decision made by 13th National People’s Congress Standing Committee on Friday.
The appointment, which was announced Friday, comes as Beijing’s relations with Washington continue to show strain over a range of issues from trade to Taiwan. He replaced Wang Yi, 69, who was promoted to the politburo of the ruling Communist Party in October, and is expected to continue to work in foreign policy.
The 56-year-old will now become one of the youngest foreign ministers in the history of the People’s Republic of China.
In solving common challenges, China’s diplomacy will offer “Chinese wisdom, Chinese initiatives and Chinese strength,” Qin said in his first statement as foreign minister.
Qin served as Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director-General of the Protocol Department from 2017 to 2018 and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2018 to 2021.
On Friday the Chinese foreign ministry released on its Website a message from Qin Gang ,in which the newly appointed foreign minister said that under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China ,China’s diplomacy upholds the purposes of supporting national rejuvenation ,promoting progress] of mankind and holding the banner of peace, development ,cooperation and win-win.
Qin Said that, in solving common challenges, China’s diplomacy will offer “Chinese Wisdom”, Chinese initiatives and Chinese strength.
