This one in 365 days – 366 during leap years – is when women unite and reclaim public space to raise their voices against injustice, misogyny and to question: patriarchy, what is this behaviour? While the Aurat March is always met with backlash by those refusing to understand it, with many women receiving death threats and rape threats (because apparently that is the right way to behave with women asking for their rights), this time around there was a lot of vitriol surrounding the March much before it even commenced. But the women refuse to be silenced out of fear; they’ve gone through too many decades of that. Of course, there were women who wished to join the March but couldn’t for many reasons. Perhaps it’s their demanding jobs that they earned through, perhaps families refused to “allow” them, or maybe it was fear from all the threats. To all of you, we say we see you and we got you.
